Five fantastic ways to recycle wooden pallets

As the saying goes ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ and that is certainly the case when it comes to recycling wooden pallets. Here at Keymas, we love finding creative new purposes for the old wooden pallets used on our conveyor systems.

1. Book shelves

Although many of us now own electronic e-readers, it can still be hard to part with our favourite paperback books. Instead of leaving them to gather dust in your attic, why not create a stylish book shelf for your living room using reclaimed wooden pallets?  An example is here.

2. Rustic coffee table

If you have been lusting after an expensive rustic coffee table for your living room, you may be able to save yourself a lot of money by making your own. Experiment with the size and shape of the coffee table by stacking the pallets in different ways. For a stylish shabby chic finish, give the table a wash of cream or mint green paint. Alternatively you can make the coffee table look a little more modern by adding a glass table top.

3. Garden decking

One of the most creative upcycling pallet projects we have come across is the transformation of wooden pallets into garden decking. Although it will take a little work, you could save yourself so much money. With summer on its way, now is the perfect time to create your wooden pallet garden decking.

4. Animal bed

If you are keen to keep your pets off your living room sofas, then why not treat them to their own animal bed? You can make a lovely animal bed out of wooden pallets. Simply treat it, paint it and add some cushions.

5. Garden swing

If you are looking for a way to make your garden stand out, why not create a garden swing using wooden pallets and rope? This will add an enchanting element to your garden that your children are sure to love.

Things to keep in mind…

It is important to remember that the wooden pallets you are recycling will have come into contact with all sorts of things including mould, bugs and harsh chemicals. This is why it is essential to take the necessary precautions and wear a mask and gloves when sawing the pallets. You will also need to treat the wood so that it is safe to use inside your home.

We hope our ideas have inspired you! With so many different tutorials online, it seems that there is no end of lovely household items that you can make out of old wooden pallets.
