New Year’s resolutions for warehouse managers

The New Year is the perfect time to set goals for the next twelve months. If you are looking for ways to improve your warehouse, take a look at our suggested New Year’s resolutions for warehouse managers below.

1. Go green

Today it is important that businesses do everything they can to operate in an environmentally friendly way. Encourage your warehouse staff to recycle waste packaging by placing recycling bins around your warehouse, ensuring they are in close proximity of your packing area. You should also consider introducing a scheme where locals can pick up your old wooden pallets to use for various projects. Recycling old wooden crates is great for the environment and will also help you to cut down on disposal costs.

2. Clean regularly

The cleaner your warehouse is, the safer it will be for your employees to work in. An organised warehouse will also lead to increased levels of productivity. If you and your staff have been lazy about cleaning your warehouse in the past, create a cleaning rota and organise a meeting to make everyone aware of the importance of cleanliness in the workplace.

3. Improve safety

Safety is always a concern to warehouse managers, as warehouses can often be dangerous places to work in. If your accident rate was high last year, make it your goal to keep accidents to a minimum this year. You may want to consider installing an automated storage and retrieval system to prevent your warehouse staff from straining their backs, lifting heavy items.

4. Organise regular warehouse meetings

Whilst you may not physically work in the warehouse yourself, it is important to show that you value your warehouse employees. In order to do this, we suggest organising regular meetings where you and your warehouse employees can get together to discuss any concerns they have about the work they do. You should also encourage them to come forward with suggestions on how their jobs could be simplified and ways of bettering warehouse production. You never know, they may actually come up with something you wouldn’t have thought of yourself, which could change warehouse operations for the better.

5. Fulfil automation plans

Whilst many warehouse managers like the sound of automating their warehouses, they often speak of it as a future plan, rather than something they are going to do in the here and now. There is no better time to automate your warehouse than now. In such a competitive market, businesses should be looking to do everything they can to give them an advantage over their competitors. Automating your warehouse will allow you to improve efficiency, increase productivity and achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction.
